Marlboro County native, gospel singer passes away

Marlboro County native and gospel singer Pastor Elder Ricky McDuffie, 31, passed away Sunday following an illness.
McDuffie was the lead singer of his family's gospel quartet Ricky McDuffie and the Family. They've traveled around the country singing songs to the delight of many.
McDuffie and his brothers and sisters won a Gospel Rhythm Award in 2014, according to the family.
His siblings said he started singing at the age of 4. They said he was a gifted singer, musician and preacher.
"God has gifted him with many gifts and talents. He had a powerful and anointed voice and he touched many lives in the community and all over the world. People were healed, set free, and delivered through his singing and preaching. He could play any musical instruments, was a songwriter, music teacher, gospel recording artist, traveling all over the world spreading the gospel, preaching and teaching God Word," said Marsharika McDuffie Quick.
McDuffie had been preaching for nine years and was the pastor of Spears Church in Bennettsville.
McDuffie leaves behind a wife and three young children.
His funeral service will be held Sunday at Berea Baptist Convention Center on Highway 38 South in Bennettsville. Burial services will follow in the Spears Church Cemetery.
